American Academy of Adoption Attorneys
Mark Iverson is a fellow of the American Academy of Adoption Attorneys.

The American Academy of Adoption Attorneys is a not-for-profit fellowship of attorneys, judges, and law professors throughout the United States and Canada, who have distinguished themselves in the field of family building including adoption law and law regarding assisted reproductive technology.  The Academy has a specialty division, The American Academy of Assisted Reproductive Technology Attorneys who have distinguished themselves in that field.

The more than three hundred members of the Academy are experts in the complexities of interstate and intercountry adoptions and assisted reproductive technology.  Members must maintain their practice according to the highest standards of professionalism, competence and ethics.

The Academy's mission is to support the rights of children to live in safe, permanent homes with loving families; to insure appropriate consideration of the interests of all parties to adoption; and to assist in the orderly and legal process of adoption.  To this end, the Academy's work includes promoting the reform of adoption laws and disseminating information on ethical adoption practices.

The Academy lends pro bono assistance in worthy cases, actively participates in the drafting and passage of adoption legislation, and the Academy participated in the drafting and implementation of the Uniform Adoption Act and the Hague Convention on Intercountry Adoption.

The Academy has worked with the American Public Health Services Association and the Association of Administrators of the Interstate Compact on the Placement of Children on the drafting of a new proposed Interstate Compact for the Placement of Children.  The goal of these organizations is to improve the process by which children are placed in permanent and stable homes in other states.

The Academy publishes a newsletter, holds annual and mid-year conferences, and conducts educational seminars for its members and other interested professionals.  Our members are frequently invited to make presentations as adoption experts for organizations throughout the world.

The American Academy of Adoption Attorneys is committed to improving the lives of children by advocating for the benefits and stability provided through adoption and family building.
